Mogo invests KES 1 million in small business empowerment under the ‘Dear Mogo’ Campaign

L–R: Mogo Community and Events Manager Sheila Nuni during a handover with one of the #DearMogo campaign beneficiaries, Mr. John Niven. Through its Dear Mogo community uplift campaign, Mogo invested KES 1 million to support communities and help restore stability for families facing financial strain after the festive season

Mogo, East Africa’s leading asset financier, has spent KES 1 million to support communities and restore hope to families facing financial strain after the festive season, through its Dear Mogo community uplift campaign.

The campaign invited Kenyans to share their biggest struggles and wins in 2025, their hopes for 2026, and what Mogo could do to help make the year better for them, on social media using the hashtag #DearMogo.

Following the campaign, 12 individual winners and one women-led boda boda business group, Team Tujijenge Women Group, shared a total of KES 1 million in cash and shopping vouchers.

Most winners received between KES 30,000 and KES 70,000, mainly to help clear school fees for children studying in various institutions and to pay rent. The support came at a critical time, especially in January, when many households face financial pressure after the festive season.

“The Dear Mogo campaign was created to appreciate Kenyans for their hard work, listen to our customers, and reassure them that Mogo is walking with them even during difficult economic times,” said Becky Ngigi, Head of Brand at Mogo.

“Mogo continues to improve community welfare not only by offering affordable logbook loans, boda boda and tuk tuk financing, but also through financial literacy programmes and social initiatives that address challenges such as early pregnancies. This is why we chose to stand with Kenyans during this period of economic hardship. Thorough background checks were conducted to ensure the funds reached deserving beneficiaries.”

Among the beneficiaries was John Odhiambo from Chokaa along Kangundo Road in Nairobi. His creative company, Scratch Productions, was left jobless after its cameras, lighting equipment and other tools were stolen at gunpoint. Mr Odhiambo requested support to purchase a new camera to help rebuild his business in 2026.

He was awarded KES 150,000 to replace the stolen equipment and support his creative team.

Another beneficiary was Ms. Claire Kalani a single mother who has been battling health challenges over the past year and was at one point admitted to hospital. Managing her medical bills alongside her daughter’s school fees became overwhelming, forcing her into arrears for Term Three. With the new school year approaching, she turned to Mogo for support to ensure her daughter could remain in school. Through the Dear Mogo campaign, Mogo stepped in to help clear her daughter’s school fees for the year, easing a heavy financial burden and allowing the family to focus on recovery and stability.

Through initiatives such as Dear Mogo, Mogo continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering communities, supporting livelihoods, and promoting sustainable financial wellbeing across Kenya.
